Sixth generation Kangaroo Islander Jan Ordway is a popular face in Penneshaw and across the region.

Ordway grew up on the island, with some of her earliest memories involving food, family, friends and a belief that dining should be a shared experience. Opening her own providore-style café was a long-held dream, one achieved in 2019 when Ordway created Millie Mae’s Pantry from the ground up. It quickly became a local go-to and was recognised with a bronze for excellence in food tourism at the 2021 South Australian Tourism Awards.

Ordway has long been a passionate advocate for eating seasonally and using locally sourced ingredients, as well as growing, pickling, preserving and saucing her way into people’s hearts.
