First Release Tasting Australia 2018

Experience the very best in food and wine in South Australia in 2018.

The raw, unfiltered flavours and beauty of Kangaroo Island and beyond will be within an hour’s reach during Tasting Australia 2018.

The popular culinary festival has today launched its first release of events for 2018 including Tasting Australia Airlines (TAA) – a full-day itinerary for guests on Kangaroo Island combining stunning locations, unforgettable eating and drinking and world-class chefs, winemakers, distillers and producers to lead the celebration.

Tasting Australia is led by festival director Simon Bryant (ABC TV’s The Cook and The Chef) and programming director Jock Zonfrillo (owner/executive chef Restaurant Orana).

“This is an exciting direction for Tasting Australia, to showcase even more of South Australia to our festival guests, including the world-class chefs who join us in 2018,” Bryant said.

“Never before could you wake up in Adelaide CBD, spend the day lapping up views of Kangaroo Island’s pristine coastline while eating local food prepared by Michelin-starred chefs, and be back in Adelaide for a nightcap.

“Tasting Australia Airlines is a complete experience; the food and drink, the setting, the chefs, the local personalities and the exclusivity.”

Tasting Australian Airlines (TAA)

TAA: Kangaroo Island includes a tour of Island Estate Vineyards, aperitif at Hannaford and Sachs’ iconic Fig Tree, canapes at Life Time Private Retreats’ clifftop properties, an extravagant lunch curated by Duncan Welgemoed (Africola, Adelaide) and a spirit tasting with KI Spirits’ distiller Jon Lark and his brother, Tasmanian whisky maker Bill Lark.

Alliance Airlines has partnered with Tasting Australia to take guests to the sky in style, and TAA tickets include return flights, on-ground transfers in region, premium food and beverages and a host for the day – maximum capacity 50 people. Additional itineraries will be released in 2018.

In 2018 Tasting Australia will extend from eight days to 10 (April 13 – 22, 2018), giving gastronomes two full weekends to plan their culinary adventure in Adelaide and beyond.

UPDATE: The first release of tickets for Tasting Australia Airlines to Kangaroo Island have been exhausted. A second release will take place shortly. Read more.

Glasshouse Kitchen

Along with Tasting Australia Airlines: Kangaroo Island the 2018 edition of the festival will feature the return of the 2017 showpiece dining series Glasshouse Kitchen.

Chefs joining the festival line-up include Christian Puglisi of Relæ, Copenhagen (#39 in World’s 50 Best Restaurants); Norbert Niederkofler of three-Michelin starred St Hubertus, Italy; JP McMahon of Michelin-starred Aniar, Ireland; Dan Hunter of Brae, Victoria (#44 in World’s 50 Best Restaurants) and Andrea Tortora, Pâtissier of the Year 2017 for Gambero Rosso and Identità Golose (also of St Hubertus).

Two evenings at the Glasshouse Kitchen have also been unveiled: Fire and Seed & Soil. In 2018 each evening will be themed, building on the sell-out success of the 2017 program. All Glasshouse Kitchen tickets include premium beverages curated by Nick Stock and East End Cellars.

  • Seed & Soil (Wed 18 April): A feast laden with vegetables, legumes, grains and goodies prepared by some of the industry’s thought leaders on sustainable, ethical food. Featuring Andrea Tortora, Paul West (River Cottage Australia), Simon Bryant and Jyoti Bindu (Pollen 185, Adelaide).
  • Fire (Sat 21 April): The Glasshouse Kitchen heats up with the world’s best stoking the coals. Christian Puglisi, Dan Hunter, Aaron Turner (Igni, Geelong) and Jock Zonfrillo.

Town Square

The free festival hub, Town Square, remains a fixture in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga and the appeal of smoky, slow-cooked treats of Charred will be back again too.

Becoming annual in 2017, Australia’s pre-eminent food and wine festival Tasting Australia has grown and evolved since launching in 1997. This year more than 52,000 people visited Town Square while thousands more enjoyed long lunches, farm tours, masterclasses and meet-and-greets throughout South Australia.

Tickets for Tasting Australia Airlines: Kangaroo Island, Glasshouse Kitchen: Seed & Soil and Glasshouse Kitchen: Fire are now on sale.

Further programming will be released in early 2018. To book and for more information: or follow @tastingaus on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
