Orana named Restaurant of the Year
The South Australia's restaurant scene star continues to rise, with the state now home to 16 hatted restaurants in the latest round of the Good Food Guide awards.
Headlining the state's success is Restaurant Orana - the Vardon Avenue establishment of Tasting Australia programming director Jock Zonfrillo - which was named Restaurant of the Year as well as receiving three prestigious hats as part of the awards.
Good Food Guide editor Myffy Rigby said the rise of Restaurant Orana was borne on the back of its embrace of truly Australian ingredients, with Zonfrillo working to elevate native food sources as the heroes of his menu.
"Zonfrillo has an ability to take left-field ingredients such as ants and Geraldton wax and turn them into something incredibly delicious," Rigby wrote.
"There's no cultural cringe, just purity and beauty. And, most importantly, Orana is a lot of fun to eat at."
Among 38 hatted restaurants run by Tasting Australia alumni, Dan Hunter's Brae and Paul Carmichael's Monofuku Seiobo, as well as Zonfrillo's Orana, received three.
The 16 South Australian establishments to feature in the awards are Restaurant Orana (three hats), Hentley Farm, Magill Estate (two hats), Africola, Appellation, Bistro Blackwood, Botanic Gardens Restaurant, The Currant She, D'Arenberg Cube restaurant, FermanetAsian, Osteria Oggi, The Pot, Press Food and Wine, Shobosho, Stone's Throw and the Summertown Astrologist (one).
