Originally from South Korea, Jung Eun Chae, formerly of Cutler & Co, started CHAE at the end of 2019 from her two-bed apartment in Melbourne’s north. 

The backbone of CHAE is in traditional Korean fermentation, using organic ingredients and making all authentic Korean sauces from scratch. 

Following word-of-mouth recommendations and media coverage, CHAE quickly became one of Melbourne’s most in-demand restaurant. 

Her unwavering drive to deliver the finest dining experience and her radical approach to business earned her the 2021 Legend: Trail Blazer Award from Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and the 2021 Best New Talent from Gourmet Traveller.

Goodfood has included CHAE as one of five ’Tastemakers’ list in the latest 2022 guide.
